Caring For Mid-Century Furniture

Caring For Your Mid-Century Furniture

Following the tips below to care for your mid-century furniture will preserve your investment and keep it's beauty for years to come.

Clean Regularly

Use a microfibre cloth to dust your furniture often to prevent dirt from building up, you can dampen (not wet) the cloth slightly or use a furniture polish.

Protect From The Sun

Try to keep your furniture away from direct sunlight or use blinds or curtains to filter the sunlight. Sunlight can fade the wood, resulting in miscoloured patches.

No Extreme Temperatures

Avoid extreme temperatures, too hot or too cold can result in the wood warping or cracking.

Use Coasters

Always use coasters or placements to protect the finish of your furniture, if spillages do occur dry them up as quickly as possible with a dry cloth.

No Harsh Chemicals

Avoid harsh chemicals or cleaning products as they can damage the wood’s natural finish. Use only natural non-chemical products.

Apply Teak Oil

We use teak oil to give the furniture a new lease of life, reapplying a coat once or twice a year (depending on how much it is used) will help maintain the natural colours of the wood. If the furniture looks dry, it’s time to oil. Make sure the surface is clean before applying, use protective gloves and either outside or in a well-ventilated area. Please follow the directions on the bottle, as some oils can vary. Don’t apply too much as it can get sticky and wait at least 24 hours before placing items back on the furniture.

Following these tips will help protect the beauty and longevity of your mid-century furniture. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
